iSOL-MET”

On Monday, April 4, 2022, the Spring School of the Erasmus + project i-SOLMET was launched at the island of Chios, North Aegean, and was kindly hosted by the Maria Tsakos Foundation at its inspiring premises.

The Spring School that will last until Friday 8 April 2022, focuses on teaching and presenting the case studies composed by the consortium -via interviews conducted with maritime professionals, who narrated a story based on a soft-skills axis mainly, communication, teamwork, leadership, etc.

For the first time, consortium led by the University of the Aegean (UAegean) develops and introduces a case study methodology for cultivating much-needed soft skills in the maritime sector, compiled from the real maritime world.

On day one, PPPLearn introduced an icebreaking activity and the case study methodology, allowing the students to get acquainted and split into multinational/multidisciplinary groups to meet the objective of the Spring School.

“This is European maritime soft-skills in the making”, as stated Professors Maria Lekakou (UAegean) and Helen Iakovaki (UAegean), lead partner of the i-SOLMET project.

On day two, the Communication based on Trust case was presented by the Lead Partner allowing students to set sail for decoding soft skills in shipping.

The consortium consists of the University of the Aegean (leader), Nikola Yonkov Vaptsarov Naval Academy (Bulgaria), T.C. Piri Reis University (Turkey), Constanta Maritime University (Romania), Akademia Morska Szczecinie (Poland), PPP Learn (Greece) and the Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions (CPMR).

i.SOL-MET initiated in 2020, has 36 months duration and received funding by the State Scholarships Foundation under the European programme Erasmus+ KA2 / Key Action 2: Strategic Partnerships.

The CPMR, an association that brings together more than 150 Regions from 24 States from the European Union and beyond, is an official interlocutor of the European Institutions and holds the secretariat of the Seas, Rivers, Islands & Coastal Areas (SEARICA) Intergroup of the European Parliament. The Region of North Aegean is an active CPMR member with specific interest in maritime and youth policies.
